Dwarf cattails have narrow green grass-like foliage that produces dark brown flower spikes called catkins towards the end of the growing season too.

 

Like any other cattails this miniature variety reproduces by both seeds and runners. Furthermore it’s in those catkins that contain thousands of cattail seeds. If your looking to control the growth of your dwarf cattails you can plant them in pots so they’re contained. Good hardy marginal pond plants.
