Water hyacinths are an excellent choice for water garden plants. Water hyacinths are a floating aquatic plant meaning they float right on the water's surface. These wonderful plants help filter the water quite well and with the long root system gives pond fish a great place to hide and lay their eggs come spawning time. There soft roots make a great place for goldfish and koi breeding.

Water hyacinths prefer and grow best in full sun. There is no need for planting these water plants as they are floating plants. Water hyacinths can reproduce and multiply quickly under the proper conditions. As your water hyacinths grow and multiply simply discard the rest to keep them under control. Pond owners should know a that a garden pond should be about 70 % full of water plants therefore keeping algae growth under control and water quality perfect and crystal clear. Water hyacinths will help clean your water and also provide shade and protection for fish. Water hyacynths will also bloom with pale blue or pale purple flowers in late summer. Please note water hyacinths are not winter hardy.
